Innovative Safety Solutions for the North-South Commuter Railway
North-South Commuter Railway project is a commuter railway system that spans from New Clark City down to Calamba, Laguna. The railway spans with thirty-six stations allowing connectivity of Metro Manila to nearby provinces and improving commute to one of the Philippines international airports in Clark. This 147 km railway network had the technical support and funding from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). This project is projected to boost the economic growth of the Philippines. It is expected to build an approximate 365,000 new jobs and can carry a total of one million passengers daily by the year 2045.
Some portions of this project are at completion and one of our clients, VSL Civil Works Philippines, has been awarded a part of the project with the finishing clean up. However, in the process, typical hanging scaffolds are not allowed due to the risk that comes with it and thus VSL worked together with Alsina Formwork Southeast Asia Corporation to provide a solution that will ensure safety while making sure that the tasks at hand can be done.
Alsina Southeast Asia Corporation provided a solution called the Underslung Access Platform employing Steel beams (2UPN) and Wood Beams (HT20). The solution has undergone back and forth checks both within the Alsina Formwork branches and the project consultants proving the workability and safety of the solution. Alsina was able to provide this through close working relationship with the client and can complete the tasks in just a week’s time. The flexibility to the 2UPN and HT20 beams (Multiform) is adaptable to various needs of the client using various connections and building a system that suites the needs of any client. Aside from Multiform’s adaptability is the strength and reliability of the system to support diverse types of loading.
