Novaliches Balara Aqueduct nº 4
For the past years, water resources in the Metro Manila area have been one of the greatest concern in the coming years. In order to meet this growing demand, Manila Water entered in a 5.5B pesos contract with Novabala Joint Venture to construct Novaliches-Balara Aqueduct No.4. This project aims to deliver 1,000 MLD to treatment plants and into Metro Manila.
This project is situated in Quezon City, Philippines, and it consists in the construction of a 6.4 km long tunnel which was built thanks to the use of a TBM. The tunnel will allow, as part of the AWTIP (Angat Water Transmission Improvement Project) project, the transfer of water from the Ipo basin to at the Bigte Settlement Plant.
Alsina Philippines took part in this groundbreaking project by providing formwork in various parts of the project.
Alsina provided formwork for the Intake Tower and Outlet Shaft using Alisply Circular, AR Shoring, Multiform Decking and Multiform Climbing System.
The intake tower reaches up to a height of almost 29m with an interior diameter of 6m. Both Interior and Exterior Panels are supported by the Multiform Climbing Formwork System while on the interior side, additional AR Shoring were provided to add working areas for the contractor.
The outlet shaft is a structure that reaches up to a total of 52m height with an interior diameter of 8m. Like for the intake tower, Alisply Circular Formwork Panels were also supported by the Multiform Climbing System.
Aside from the Intake Tower and the Outlet Shaft, Alsina Philippines has also provided formwork solution for the Pag-asa Retaining Walls using Alisply Wall Panels and C160 Climbing System. This is a buttress-type of retaining wall. This wall had a tapered wall thickness of 1.17m at the base up to 0.40m at the top. The height of the wall was up to 10.12m.
The project has been completed and Alsina Philippines has provided the necessary technical design and site support they need ensuring timeliness of delivery.
Concrete finishes and transition of systems needed are achieved making the client’s job more efficient.
