ALSINA’S FORMWORK SYSTEMS USED IN MULTIPLE PROJECTS IN EUROPE
Alsina Group is an international company manufacturing, selling and renting formwork solutions for concrete structures based in Barcelona (Spain), which currently operates in 18 countries, has 33 centers spread around the world employing over 700 people, and participates in more than 3,500 works per year.
With more than 65 years of experience in creating value, Alsina has become one of the benchmark companies in the formwork field, and that’s the reason why it collaborates in multiple and diverse projects around the world. The internationalization of Alsina’s products, services and technology has been key to the positive evolution of the Formwork Group, which has gained a good name in Europe through the successful implementation of complex projects in several countries where it currently has its own subsidiaries. Below we review some of them.
In Italy, Alsina has been recently participating in the construction of the Arcisate-Stabio railway line, a new transport infrastructure that connects Switzerland to Malpensa airport (Italy). With a length of 8 km, the new railway is made up of railway trenches and tunnel pieces. Alsina has participated in the construction of Gladden station, on the border between Italy and Switzerland, the building of the GA03 tunnel to Induno Olona, all the water traps and several retaining walls along the route. Alsina’s equipment has also made it possible to resolve the countless technical difficulties of the GA03 tunnel Induno Olona, which is 60 meters long, while meeting the high production rates required by the customer. Thus, Alsina’s AR-80 Shoring System allowed supporting the trusses that allow the continuous circulation of means of transport in its lower part, and the structure was resolved with the Multiform System due to the particular shape of the vault, ensuring the stream in only two steps for each quoin. Finally, formwork stripping was carried out using manual lathes operated from above the formwork structure. This allowed very fast recovery, providing total safety for the workers during this procedure.
On the other hand, Alsina has been participating in several residential building complexes in France on 2017. On of them, in Perpignan, is the construction project of the Residential Buildings Aparte II, two buildings of 6 floors in which Alsina has been in charge of implementing the formwork of the ground floors, walls and balconies with their formwork solutions. For this Alsina has supplied its Alisply Walls, CL-40 Shoring system, and Multiform Tables without the need to design any product adapted to the project given the versatility of its formwork solutions.
Alsina has also been successfully participating in several projects in Portugal, one of them being the construction of industrial silos in the Torres Vedras district of the city of Lisbon. For the realization of this project the company supplied its Multiform, Alisply circular walls and C-240 Climbing System, as well as a special piece designed by Alsina’s technical team. Thanks to a big circular interior climbing system of 7 meters of diameter the work was successfully implemented on the estimated time. Alisply Circular Walls is a recoverable modular formwork system for circular fair-faced concrete walls. This is a fast and profitable system to be handled with a crane and consisting of a galvanized steel frame and phenolic resin-coated plywood surface. Its modules come preassembled from the workshop and only the radius has to be defined on site. In order to do this, the panel includes all the necessary components and no special tool is required to curve the phenolic plywood.
Another project in which Alsina is currently collaborating is the construction of the new Poema del Mar Aquarium (which translates to Sea Poem), located in the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain. This is the largest complex of this type in Europe, which entails the construction of a horizontal building with an area of 8,500 square meters.
The aquarium will be made up of three areas: surface marine ecosystems, deep marine ecosystems and freshwater species. Once the aquarium opens, more than 8 million liters of water will be used to hold about 350 marine species that will live at one of the most spectacular aquariums of the world. Out of the different parts of the project, it is worth highlighting the outstanding 7.600 m2 façade, which is 20 meters high. This wall is being built with white concrete and designed to contain some small hollow surfaces in the white concrete wall with the shape of a shark. These hollow surfaces called “pixels” make this unique infrastructure even more spectacular, since they will have a total of 3.000 light fixtures forming the shape of a great shark, and at night, thanks to RGB LED technology, the complex lights will change their tonality and intensity.
Alsina has supplied many of its formwork and shoring system solutions, as well as engineering, calculation and on-site consulting services to successfully carry out the project.
Finally, and among many others, it is worth mentioning Alsina’s participation in the construction of the Rytter Elektrownia Lipki Water Power Plant in in Brzeg, Poland. This project involved the construction of a two-story 2,1MW power Water Power Plant located on the Odra River, close to Brzeg City, which combines with 3 turbines of 0,7MW each, with the aim to produce electricity in an environment-friendly way. Alsina has supplied its Alisply Walls, CL-160 Climbing system, Multiform formwork system and HT Beams for the implementation of the project. It is worth mentioning that the one-sided concrete walls were 11m high and had different unusual shapes, so they were implemented by using Alisply Walls formwork system along with Dywidags that were welded to steel Larsen wall in order to hold Alisply Straight formwork system. Alsina’s Alisply range includes several recoverable formwork systems for the construction of walls and columns. This is a resistant, versatile and compatible system with all other accessories from Alisply family systems, a fact that makes so much more profitable the formwork equipment on site. The formwork surface of different types of Alisply is made of plywood, which offers many advantages over metal surfaces, such as lower weight, higher concrete quality, increased performance and greater resistance to inclement weather
