Expansion of the Sadar Stadium

1
WE ARE ONE OF THE INTERNATIONAL LEADERS IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF NON RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS

The renovation of El Sadar respects the original structure of the stadium built in 1967 and its expansion in 1989 with the construction of a new stand. From there, it modifies the entire distribution of the seating and adds a new ring that increases the stadium’s capacity to 23,500 spectators.

The constructed expansion has a structure composed of 2 levels of floors, supported on in-situ concrete piles with exposed finish, and executed with the Alisply Walls modular system and C160 climbing console model.

The floors are of a unidirectional type lightened with pre-fabricated slabs and “in situ” beams, some of them post-tensioned. The formwork system used is the Vistaform Tables product on AR-80 high-strength shoring for the “in situ” beams. For the shoring of pre-slabs, 6m Alisan Props were used on the +5.04 level floor and high-strength A-Lite Props on the +12.04 level floor.

The Mesas Vistaform system forms a surface of nailed wooden boards supported on a double level of 2UPN metallic beams and HT-20 wood. The configuration of elements for this work is detailed in the technical study plans, proposing a formwork surface 2 m wide.

The AR-80 shoring system is of a high-strength multidirectional type, consisting of a resistant steel structure composed of vertical and horizontal elements of different sizes, braced with diagonal elements.

The verticals are supported on the ground on height-adjustable bases, topped at the top with heads that support the formwork components. It is a system designed for more typical civil engineering solutions, but it was the solution adopted in this work due to the high construction loads and the height of the different floors. The configuration of the shoring is detailed in the technical study plans of the work, appearing as a singular case the solution for the perimeter beams at the corners of the stadium.

All the effort paid off when, in March 2022, the specialized portal ‘StadiumDB’ named El Sadar as the best stadium in the world built or renovated in 2021.
