WE HAVE HIGH-RESOLUTION CAPABILITY TO EFFECTIVELY ADDRESS THE NEEDS OF ALL OUR CUSTOMERS

The six-lane trans-harbour bridge is 21.8 km long with a 16.5 km sea-link, longest sea bridge in India, and the world’s 12th longest sea bridge. This project employed around 17,000 labourers and 1,500 engineers while also creating employment opportunities in the transport and construction industries. The project costs a total of ₹17,843 crore (US$2.2 billion).

The bridge has a capacity to handle 70,000 vehicles per day.

The Bridge begins in Sewri, South Mumbai, Crosses Thane Creek north of Elephant Island, and terminates at Chirle near Nhava Sheva in Uran Taluka, Navi Mumbai. This bridge will reduce travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai to less than 30 minutes.

For the first time in India Orthotropic steel deck technology used. 85,000 Metric Ton of orthotropic steel used. Technologies supplier-IHI Corporation for Orthotropic steel deck (OSD) and BUMA Korea for reverse circulation drill technology.

Environmental Considerations: The roads on both sides of the bridge have been paved with stone mastic asphalt (SMA) which increases the pavement life by 20–30% because of its high resistance to variations in temperature, better adhesion between the stone aggregate and bitumen, reduces traffic noise, has high skid resistance and enhances road surface marking visibility.

Alsina India got the opportunity to participate in this iconic project in Mumbai supplying a total of 21 modular pier formwork sets enabling the casting of more than 130 piers of different cross sections. The main feature which was greatly appreciated by both the contracting companies was the unique feature of retraction of the inner formwork using a specialised & patented technology of Alsina thereby minimising the time required to deshutter with minimum involvement of labour.

Apart from the above, Alsina also supplied modular pier cap formwork solutions designed with the very popular AR80 shoring solutions to adjust and cast variable sizes; but the biggest engineering challenge was to cast twenty five segments, each one with a unique design.

While some were 10 meters in heights and 30 meters in length , others were 13 meters tall and 25 meters in length but more wide. Some also had a very unique curvature, others were sloping in one end. Alsina engineering department spent considerable manhours designing these 750 meters of viaduct with 90 meters of modular formwork material.
