Alsina participates in the construction of the New Catholic University Faculty of Medicine in Asunción
The project: Construction of a University Center in Paraguay
Alsina’s Formwork delegation in Paraguay begun in 2018 its collaboration in the construction of the new Faculty of Health Sciences of the Catholic University “Our Lady of the Assumption” (UC), located on the campus of the University Hospital, on the San Cristóbal de Asunción neighborhood in the Paraguayan capital.
The new building, which is scheduled to be completed this year 2019, will have the capacity to accommodate 1,500 students and 200 teachers, has a 15.770 sq. m. of built area and is distributed in five levels in height and three levels of subsoil. The center will have seven laboratories, two digital laboratories, eleven classrooms, a lecture hall, an anatomy classroom, a library, an auditorium for 250 people, the teachers’ rooms, the study spaces for students, academic direction and administrative areas, the student center and other service areas such as covered parking.
Narciso Velázquez, rector of the UC, said that it is a historic moment. “It is a great challenge that is becoming a reality thanks to the efforts of many officials of the institution, who are projecting growth and making possible the development of our university,” he said.
Alsina: practical and effective solutions for the construction of equipment
Alsina has supplied several of its formwork systems for the implementation of the project, such as the Alucubetas system to solve the 9.000 sq. m the implementation of the subsoil’s slabs, as well as the Alisan Prop system of various dimensions for the slab support.
On the other hand Alsina Paraguay supplied the Alulosas formwork system to implement the formwork of the 3 stories of the building, thus helping to successfully execute the 9,000 sq. m required by the construction management.
Alsina’s Alucubetas system is a recoverable formwork system that allows making two-way waffle slabs with reusable domes, widely used in facilities such as car parks, malls, schools, sports facilities, etc., allowing a maximum saving of concrete due to its design.
Alucubetas allows making slabs with a standard 80×80 cm grid and 12 cm ribs, allowing the implementation of other rib dimensions.
Our vast experience has enabled us to reach optimal designs that provide minimum deformations, minimum breakage and maximum easiness in form removal, as well as high profitability: three days after pouring concrete the 80% of the elements can be recovered. A line of girders every 2,40 m provides shoring until 21 or 28 days later, when the concrete reaches its characteristic resistance.
On the other hand, Alsina’s Alulosas system is a robust, safe and lightweight structural steel mecano system with a revolutionary duralumin tilting and a phenolic board-framing surface that is perfect for roofing, as it allows fast assembly and recovery of 80% of the elements three days after pouring.
Completion date: 2019
