New Wastewater Plant in Galveston
The Pirates Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant Replacement project in Galveston involves constructing a new 0.5-MGD (million gallons per day) treatment plant to replace the existing 0.15-MGD plant.
The new plant, designed for expansion up to 1.5-MGD average daily flow and 4.5-MGD peak wet weather flow, uses a conventional activated sludge process.
This process was selected due to its benefits and compatibility with site constraints, necessitating a modular, space-saving design.
The plant will be built on the existing site while maintaining the operation of the current plant during construction.
The project includes:
- Structures: Construction of a Blower/Motor Control Center (MCC) building with a square footage of 760 ft².
- Additional Components: Equipment, piping, excavation, grading, and roads are also part of the project scope.
- Lift Stations: Replacement of a lift station adjacent to the plant and rehabilitation of two off-site lift stations that discharge into the existing plant’s biological treatment units.
